Tour 1 - Munich East – A New Urban Region Arises

Until 1992 airplanes dominated the region, but then one of Europe’s biggest urban developments began: the trade fair city Riem now offers a home for 18,000 people and work for 12,000 people on a total acreage of 560 hectare. Plenty of renowned businesses have set up their base and helped shape the new urban region alongside the Messe München. We will start our tour at the former now landmarked airport tower, the new headquarters for Brainlab. Further we will visit the SZ publishing building, one of the region’s most distinctive buildings. The four skyscrapers building the eastern gateway to Munich, called the Bavaria Towers, will conclude our tour of Munich East.

Tour 3 - All About the Music – Important Sites for Culture And Music

The new concert hall will be situated in the Werksviertel near the München Ostbahnhof train station. In October of last year, the winning design by the Bregenzer architectural office Cukrowicz Nachbaur was revealed. An unusually shaped structure and plenty of glass will define the new look. In addition to the concert hall, the Werksviertel will provide housing for 2,650 people and work for 12,000 people. By incorporating old industrial buildings with new constructions, the district will offer a unique composition of apartments, loft-offices, art and concert spaces, nightlife, workshops, bars and restaurants, as well as hotels and leisure facilities. Just two kilometers in the direction of the city center you can find the Gasteig, the cultural center of Munich. It houses Munich’s philharmonic orchestra and a variety of prestigious cultural and educational institutions. In the competition for the general restauration and modernization of the cultural center, a draft was selected in autumn 2018.
